This is not another World Cup count down though, I've got better things to do with my time. If you want one of them then the BBC (fine institution that it is) has done it very well; picking out some old classics and some less familiar material.
What I want to talk about it betting odds. In the world of matched betting, it's widely accepted that the best time to open new bookmaker accounts is around Cheltenham. Cheltenham is nothing compared to the World Cup though. The bookmakers are doing everything they can to get casual punters in, who they can then rinse for the rest of their natural lives. This is an advantage players wet dream.
If you don't have an account with all the major bookmakers, but you want to place a bet on the World Cup, don't just stick to what you know, get accounts (and the value) from all of them.
As an example, Ladbrokes normally offer no more than £50 for a sign up bonus, at the moment you can get £100.
Some sites just offer rediculous boosts on teams at the World Cup. Paddy Power, for instance, are trippling odds on the outright markets for new customers. That means you can get a huge 16/1 on Spain retaining their World Cup. That can be laid off for guaranteed money so easily it'd be rude not to!
Bet365 aren't boosting their sign up bonus, but as it's already £200 that's not suprising! They do have some great offers on the football, it really does pay to look around.
BetBright who are offering £30 risk free (which is just brilliant on it's own), and follow that up with £25 on any team to win the World Cup and you get £5 everytime they win a match. Also £25 on a top scorer and you'll get £5 everytime they score a goal.
Finally, even the casinos are bang on it. They know that they've got a good chance of recycling someone's betting winnings into the casino so sites like Coral are giving away special bonuses to anyone who plays at both the casino and bookmaker.
There's money to be made at the World Cup, and if you don't have all the accounts yet you're in a better position than anyone else to profit. Don't be a mug. Get all the accounts you put your bets down wherever there's value to be had.
