Consistant Profit From Betting

26/8/2014

Picture
Consistant Betting Profit is the name of the game.

There is a school of thought that you can't appreciate the highs if you haven't tasted the lows, but when it comes to betting I can assure you that winning is always better than losing.

Obtaining a consistant betting profit is like getting a payrise, or a tax reduction, or just taking up a fun hobby that actually pays as well.
So how can you achieve a consistant betting profit? Well there's only one sure fire way and that's through matched betting.

Matched betting is the process of playing bookmakers off against each other and using betting exchanges (such as BetFair and Smarkets) to unlock the value of bonuses and turn them into cash in your pocket.

The basic principal of matched betting is that there every online bookmaker wants your custom, and that in order to secure it you they will give you a free bet or bonus on your deposit. By unlocking this bonus using backs and lays you can walk away from each bookmaker in profit and move onto the next.

There are some things you need to know about matched betting before you get started, and some common pitfalls and mistakes that you need to avoid, but really with a basic understanding of maths and odds (nothing you can't pick up) you can make a tidy sum of money.

There are around 200 online bookmakers you can do use this process to beat, but what do you do when you've run out of bookmaker sign up offers?

Well the next logical step from matched betting is to advantage play betting. It's the world beyond MSE GIOL (gambling introductory offers loopholes) and it's very lucrative. Advantage play betting takes the basic skills of matched betting and applies them to
reload bonuses, if bets and money back specials.

Now the thing about advantage play betting, and the reason it's not covered on MSE GIOL, is
that whilst matched betting (when done correctly) is next to zero risk, advantage play betting in many instances will involve variance. Variance is a term that crops up time and again when you're playing casino games (why do some people hit the jackpot and others don't), but it also rears it's ugly head when advantage play betting (APing).

Take nil nil refunds (or bore draw refunds as they're also known). William Hill offer these on all matches. If the match you bet on ends nil nil they will refund losing correct score and first scorer bets. This is a type of if bet and c
an be a consistant source of income for the advantage play gambler, but you're not going to hit it every time. On average 10% of football games finish nil nil. You can up that by selecting games that are more likely to be a bore draw, but you won't hit it every time. The rub is that you could miss the refund 5, 10, even 20 times on the bounce, and that's variance. Statistically 10% of games will finish nil nil, you just might not be on them and that sample is far bigger than the one you'll be betting on.

That doesn't mean there's not consistant money to be made though, it just means you need to be on more games to make sure that the advantage in your bets pays for the effort you're putting in.

The way to make this process as easy as possible is to use a site that trawls the bookmakers and tells you where there are offers on that day, and a community that helps with matching odds.

BetBright £25 Risk Free Bet Still Available

19/8/2014

BetBright Sign Up Bonus
BetBright are a quality bookmaker, trying their best to make it in a world dominated by the big names.

Over the World Cup they ran a £30 risk free bet, with actual cashback on your stake (instead of a bonus) if you lost your first real money bet.

Unfortunately, if you don't have an account, they have recently reduced the risk free bet to £20.......well, unless you follow our instructions below to get a bit more anyway.
We can't get you £30 Risk Free, but we can get you a £25 Risk Free bet, which is better than £20 anyway, and it's really easy as well.

1. Firstly, use this link, or the banner below to go to BetBright.

2.  On the splash page click 'Bet Now', but do not sign up on the screen it takes you to

3. Instead, on the right hand side of the sign up form (you may need to scroll down a bit) you can see the BetBright Blog.
BetBright Blog Enhanced Bonus
4. Click the BetBright blog and again scroll down, and instead of the £20 risk free bet, there's a link to a new sign up form where you receive a £25 risk free bet instead.
BetBright Risk Free Bet
5. You're welcome.

Once you've got your account and completed the risk free first bet you'll also find there are plenty of money back specials and if bets making this an excellent account to hold.

Not sure why BetBright are keeping the £25 Risk Free Bet through the blog (it's been confirmed as legitimate by The Gambling Times) maybe they just want to encourage reading, which is nice.

Premier League Betting, new User Bonuses

9/8/2014

Now I know that the football season is already under way, and that there are a great number of fans, but, honestly, I've just posted this late so I'm changing the title to Premier League betting!

The kick off the 2014/5 Premier League season is rapidly approaching, with the Charity Shield (or Community Shield if you'd rather) providing it's normal opening to the season on Sunday.

As ever there is hope an expectation, but there is also money to be made. Throughout the season this blog will be charting my profit, and there's nothing to stop you joining in as well.
Now I've already done a couple of pieces on Premier League betting (or any of the top leagues really, it's only in the Championship and European equivalents that you seem to get genuine suprises at the top now) covering Who Will Win the Premier League and, more interestingly, Who Won't Win the Premier League.

What I now want to look at is Bookmaker new user bonuses for the start of the season. As with all major sporting events, the bookmakers go into overdrive and start competing on a whole manner of things. They'll pretty much do anything to get you to sign up with them as the average mug punter will stick with the first company they sign up with.

Already my inbox has got an interested offer from GoWager (linked to the Guardian, which is odd when you think about it) where if your team is winning the league at Christmas you get a boost on the odds you're getting. They also have a £25 new user bonus. There are better odds available elsewhere, but combining the bonuses (and using the if bets) can make you some cash.

Totesport have a great offer where you place a top scorer bet and get a £5 free bet everytime they hit a brace (or more) in a match. For the record Luis Suarez, 2013/4 Premier League top scorer, managed that feat an impressive eight times in the league. Pick the top scorer and he does that again and you'll have made £40 in free bets over the season as well as the winnings on your bet. Not bad.

And, inspite of them saying it'll be pulled at any moment, BetBright are still running a £30 risk free first bet. Seriously, there's no good reason for not having one of their accounts.

Clearly there are terms and conditions with these offers, but I'll leave you to investigate them, it'll help you understand how to beat the bookies.

On that note, if you're looking to win more bets than you lose, then check out my guide to matched betting, how to use nil nil bore draw refunds to your advantage, and, if you're still looking for more information, join The Gambling Times where you can find all the latest offers, bonuses and inplay chat.

The English Player premium (Shaw, Lallana and Chambers)

28/7/2014

Picture
The English player premium is still alive and well.

It's a documented fact that if you buy English, or even British, you're going to end up paying over the odds. It's another example of rip of Britain, and so far it's having a cracking summer.

Already we've seen Adam Lallana move to Liverpool for £26m, Luke Shaw to Manchester Utd for £30m and Calum Chambers head to Arsenal for £16m.

Three English players, all conincidentaly from Southampton, and all very expensive in terms of the global market.
Between them Lallana, Shaw and Chambers have 162 premier matches under their belts, 13 premier league goals and a massive 12 international caps.

But these aren't ordinary caps......no.......these are England caps. 12 of them. More caps than can be counted on two whole hands, and that's why their transfer fees are so high. It's not direclty linked to ability, but the country they play for.

Not convinced? Well for a couple of million more you could've had Fabregas rather than Lallana. That's a World and European Cup (twice) winner, with pretty much every trophey going in his cabinet.............or Lallana who has dust gathering on his prize shelf which holds league one and Championship runners up medals.

Instead of Shaw,
Filipe Luis moved to Chelsea for half the price and that's off the back of winning La Liga and reaching the Champions League final with Athletico Madrid last season. Still too dear? Well Marcos Rojo (the Argentine World Cup runner up) looks to be moving for around £8m this summer and is hardly aged at 24,

Of course the homegrown rules play a part, as does marketing, but all it boils down to is the dearth of top English players. The few there are, therefore, go for a massive mark up. Maybe if a few of them went abroad it'd free up some places for young English players and bring the price down, but it's rare to see an Englishman footballer go abroad for anything other than an away fixture or a holiday.

The English player premium is, of course, not a new thing, you only need go back a few years to see such other over priced players as; Andy Carroll, Stuart Downing, Ashley Young and David Bentley.

Now you might be thinking that those players represented a gamble, as all transfers do, but that their prices at the time reflected the market and their abilities. Well to counter that argument, let's compare some of the top English transfers paid, and the other players that moved around the same time........but didn't have an English premium on them.
Picture
Andy Carroll for £35m or Edinson Cavani for £10m
Picture
Picture
Stewart Downing for £20m or Juan Mata for £23.5m.

Ashley Young moved at this time as well, for £18m, which could almost be considered a bargain in comparison......but not quite.
Picture
Picture
David Bentley for £15m or Luka Modrić for £16.5
Picture
Picture
Sean Wright-Philips for £21m or Alexander Hleb for £6
Picture
Picture
Jack Rodwell for £12m or Rafael van der Vaart for £10m
Picture
Ok so some of those weren't exactly like for like (in terms of playing style, contract and age - but I've done my best!), but to my mind there hasn't been a decent value English player, in the premier league at least, for a very long time; I'm thinking Lampard, Cole.....maybe even as far back as Shearer.

I really hope Lallana, Shaw and Chambers do brilliantly at Liverpool, Manchester Utd and Arsenal respectively, but I also feel for them. A good value transfer involving an English player is a rare thing and they are now saddled with price tags they haven't really earnt in terms of global football.

Sure they'll be some people that will disagree my thoughts and conclusions, so feel free to add a comment if you want to suggest someone I've missed off the list, or if you want to start a discussion about English player premium flops.

If you're interested in making some money from betting, and not messing it up like so many football transfers, then check out my guide to matched betting and some top tips on winning your bets. Failing that, at least treat yourself to a risk free bet from BetBright.

Who Won't win the Premier League?

25/7/2014

Picture
In the close season, and with reference to betting, the questions normally being asked are, who will win the premier league? And who will be relegated from the premier league?

A friend asked me yesterday about whether either of them were a good bet, and I said not really. In terms of outrights at this stage, it's too difficult to call.

All we really know is that it would be a miracle if the premier league winner didn't come out of; Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City or Manchester Utd.

Well, my friend asked, why don't we just lay the rest of the teams then?

A good question, I said..................but there are thousands of very good reasons for not doing that.
Laying a bet is essentially being a bookmaker. If you want to back a long shot they'll take the bet all day long as they know the odds are massively stacked in their favour, and any liability is offset by the money they're taking on the favourites. The bookmaker overround (basically their profit margin assuming a perfect book has been created) ensures they're always the winner.

If you take a longshot bet from someone on BetFair, for instance from some die hard West Brom fan that thinks they can win the league, then you are offering them the maximum odds of 1000/1. BetFair doesn't care that West Brom won't win the league, they are a middle man bringing people who bet together. They will deduct the £1,998 liability from your balance once you've accepted the bet (there's a £2 minimum bet on the exchange).

Come May when West Brom haven't won the Premier League you will collect your £2 win, and the liability amount will be returned to your account as well. You'll have tied up nearly £2,000 for 10 months for what, approximately 0.1% interest, with a small risk that you'd lose it all.

At £2 minimum stakes on the 15 teams that won't win the Premier League you'd have a; £158 liability on Tottenham, £358 liability on Everton and £1998 liability on Newcastle and every single other team in the league. So for a potential win of £30 you would be risking (and tying up in BetFair) over £26,000 from August to May!

That is why you don't lay the 15 Premier League teams that won't win the title. You don't have the capital or the other bets coming in to make a complete book and make it work.

What you should be doing is combining bookmaker bonuses and matched betting to make a profit. It's why you should be using if bets and bore draw refunds rather than tipsters.

Making a book using the top 5 teams, backing and laying and using price boosts can be done though, and I'll show you mine in a future blog post..........
BetFair Exchange Betting
Fancy staking over £26,000 to win £30 over the course of the Premier League season? Or do you just want the best odds on your football betting and great sign up bonuses for the sporstbook, betting exchange and casino? Either way, sign up to BetFair.
BetBright £30 Risk Free Bet
Not sure who will win the Premier League? That's you and every tipster and pundit then. Have a bet on the Premier League and get your cash back if it loses. Take BetBright's £30 risk free bet for new customers, and then all their extra if bets on horses, football and every other sport as well.
For the record, the 15 team that won't win the 2014/15 Premier League (and I'd love for someone to reference in May 2015 if one of them does)!

Aston Villa won't win the Premier League
Burnley won't win the Premier League
Crystal Palace won't win the Premier League
Everton won't win the Premier League
Hull
won't win the Premier League
Leicester won't win the Premier League
Newcastle won't win the Premier League
QPR won't win the Premier League
Southampton won't win the Premier League
Stoke won't win the Premier League
Sunderland won't win the Premier League
Swansea won't win the Premier League
Tottenham won't win the Premier League
West Brom won't win the Premier League
West Ham won't win the Premier League

Might as well complete the set and my predictions....................

Arsenal could win the Premier League (but won't)
Chelsea could win the Premier League (and should)
Liverpool could win the Premier League (but had their chance last year and won't get another this year)
Manchester City could win the Premier League (and if Chelsea don't then they will)
Manchester Utd could win the Premier League (will knock someone else out of the top 4, but won't win the league)

The Favourites Aren't Always the Best Value

Brazil being complete screw ups has cost me quite a bit of money. This is the first time I've created a 'book' of the different protaganists in a long term (well shortish long term anyway) market, and I was heavily weighted to Brazil at least making the final.

Haven't lost money, but Brazil's epic fail against Germany certainly has cost me money.

Last week I raised the idea of losing money being felt more than winning money, well this week the main feeling is the lost opportunity to make money!
Friday
Get enhanced odds at Partybets on Brazil to 4.00 and put on the usual measly £8.10 allowance (although who can blame them for limiting these lovely arbs) laying at 1.83 to £10 so am pleased when they win. Nothing else special, just the usual round of Betfred, WillHill and Betfair correct scores on the snoozefest that is Germany v France, None of these come in and the lack of extra time means no refunds. Win some small amounts off free spins at WillHill and Ladbrokes. And in other news Cavendish crashes out of the tour, falling off a bike always looks bloody painful.
+£15

Saturday
Holland v Costa Rica does me a few favours on Saturday with free bets at Will Hill, Betfair and Bet Victor from the 0-0, extra time and penalties. Gutted when Costa Rica are knocked out though, I’m still holding onto the belief that had they won, England could claim to have picked up a point against the world champions! I’m on my free £5 bet per Argentina goal, and also got Messi covered in a good odds DD/HH. Again Argentina manage to score just once, and even worse it’s such a late goal but just in regulation so denies me any extratime refunds. Do a little bit of in play laying on the 0-0 but it is a poor return all round in that game. In general I’ve taken close odds wherever I can and it left me mainly with Argentina or Belgium needing to score 3 goals!
-£20 (with £60 of free bets to come)

Sunday
With no football on the free bets get used on horse racing, underlay on all of them going with odds of around 8 to 8 on the 2 £25 underlaying to £20, and 11 to 11 on the £10. None of the horses pull off a surprise but convert the free bets into cash. Have a free £20 live casino bonus from spin and win at Will Hill but win nothing on Roulette.
+£48

Monday
Looking over my records, this was a dull day. £5 slots at Will hill and win 74 pence from 5 £1 spins (this however is much better than what happens tomorrow). I use my free 888Bet on a horse at 54/1 in a 4 horse race, it comes 2nd, I convert that into £3 and also use up my free £5 BetBright (still a £30 risk free sign up here as well) bet on Brazil
+£6.74

Tuesday
Bit of a disaster for Brazil. The Chat Box was bloddy funny though, never seen The Gambling Times betting forum lost for anything other than swear words!!!

Whilst incredible to watch, the 7-1 hammering is does me no betting favours at all, Unsuprisingly it didn't come up as a correct score win for me (think they reported 4 people globally went for it). The shock boost on Brazil at Party Bets does not come in, but more importantly I was due to win the most money if Brazil won the whole thing, and this result also ends a few pre tournament refunds I had set up. Didn't even hit anything despite Brazil's late goal. Finally I’d been incrementally laying on a double with them and Argentina to qualify which I got at 4.00 at Betfair, down on this as the rapid speed of the goals allow me no time to do anything in play. Estimating I’m down about £25 on the game alone with underlays, but the true figure is worse in terms of my world cup book. I do win £10 at Sky with an unlaid punt on Germany and also win a fiver on their festival of free bets promo so day is not all bad.
 -£25

Wednesday
Dispondent is my feeling of the day, and the awful fare served up by Argentina & Holland does not help. Don’t even get a free £5 bet off Argentina as they fail to score! Quick calculation shows they have managed 8 goals against Iran, Bosnia, Nigeria, Belgium, Switzerland and Holland whilst Germany have hit 17 against Portugal, Ghana, USA, Brazil, and France. It’s been a good bit of fun but I wish I had picked up the £85 freebies from the Germans rather than £40 I've got on Argentina! In terms of results there's a free bet at Betfair for extra time and have also backed the 0-0 at Betfred with slight underlay so am up on the game. Not betting related but Froome retires from the Tour de France, I’ll still be watching (not betting) but a lot of the gloss has gone.
 +£20

Thursday
Use the free bet at Betfair, picking a horse at 8.0 to 8.0 but the horse is a non runner this is a complete nightmare and illustrates why if you are using a free bet on a horse you need to ignore the odds and do it nearer the start of the race, as you do not get your free stake back!! I put it on an hour and a half before the off, but it’s probably safer to leave it to half hour before. Luckily I recover £40 from roulette on live casino at William Hill via spin and win
+£40

Week Profit : £115

There's been so much going on, and have tied my float up a bit in long term markets, that I've not been signing up with new sites. Will hit some new sites next week and try to get myself back in the zone for primarily non football betting in the break before the premier league starts again. Certainly going to miss the World Cup, but be good to have a break from it.

Learned a couple of lessons this week and starting to get to grips with certain small points but still feel that I need to do more if I’m going to be able to make a living out of this full time (given the result this week that is definitely the case) however that is the aim! The world cup has helped me get confident on how to lay a bit in play and work offers into matches to my advantage as well as also having my first book on an event so overall ben productive.

Bet on Brazil or germany

Brazil vs Germany Free Bets
Bet on Brazil or Germany in the first World Cup semi final.

Better yet, bet on both Brazil and Germany. Bet on anything that will give you an edge, regardless of whether you think it will happen or not.

You might think that's stupid, and given the bookmakers edge you couldn't then win money, but actually the opposite is true, if you're smart about your bets then take both sides
One of the key rules of matched betting, is that if you care about the result you've probably done it wrong.

So how does this work in practice? Well you need to use bookmaker free bets and moneyback specials to your advantage. Bookmaker free bets are normally there just to lure you in to betting and losing. But by backing at the bookmaker and laying at an exchange you can unlock the value of the free bet and make money.

There are currently 33 known moneyback specials on the Brazil vs Germany World Cup semi final tonight. That's 33 opportunities to get your stake back at the bookmaker if something happens (0-0, a red card, a penalty, injury time goal etc etc etc). I've written a full article on if bets, and even more on 0-0 refunds, but the basic principal is you back something at the bookmaker covered by the refund trigger, and lay at similar odds on the exchange. If the trigger then happens, you've created a free bet and lost nothing (bar some exchange commission) in the qualifying bet. If the trigger doesn't hit, then you've lost nothing.

Think about it, that's a way of creating money for yourself and that's what advantage play betting is all about.

To get you started, you need a list of Brazil vs Germany moneyback specials, and thankfully The Gambling Times has done it for you. All the bookmakers on the list are reputable, and the offers are open to new and existing customers. Not only that, if you don't have an account with them, you can also claim the free bet you get for setting up the account.

It's a no brainer. Stop betting with your gut, or by what a tipster with a low hit rate tells you, start matched betting and advantage play now. It's a life skill and one that will net you a decent little side income if you take the time to learn.
Smarkets free bet
Get a Smarkets account to lay your bets. You've probably already got a BetFair account, so why not get yourself another free bet from Smarkets for Brazil vs Germany.
Brazil vs Germany free bets
For all the Brazil vs Germany moneyback specials and free bets, check out The Gambling TImes spreadsheet. It covers every game of the World Cup, along with all the sign up offers.

It's basically a free money list. Get involved.

This week I have been mostly betting on the world cup

This week I have been mostly betting on the World Cup.

Bit of a jumble this week as there's been so much going on, so let's start with a run down of the type of things I've been doing this week in the hope it will be of use to someone out there in the internet.

Party Bets – Shock Boosts & Hot Combos
Cashpoint - £50 sign up bonus
Sky Bet – Boosts & Money back if for losses
Betfred - Money back if 1-1
Betsson – Disaster insurance
Bet365 – 0-0 insurance
Bet Victor - Red card and penalty insurance
Coral – Bet & Spin and refunds on certain markets
Will HIll - Bore draw insurance and Spin and Win
Stan James - Risk free
BetFair - Lays and refunds
Smarkets - Lays and 0% commission

Anyway, if you've got it in you, here's the blog!

The World Cup has been all encompasing recently, taking over aspect of my betting and social life, and I've bloody loved it!

England have cost me by being completely toilet, but at the same time they generate a lot of extra liquidity and interest so I'd rather they were still in from a betting point of view, if not a kidney point of view.

Friday

Hungover and still fuming about the complete shambles that England's defence were I spend the day with an icepack on my head wishing my plan to go through the world cup sober had continued. Refunded commission of £1.60 at Smarkets on the England result does nothing to lighten my mood. At this stage still confident Italy will do us a favour and the dream can continue. Do my normal round of betting at Will Hill and Betfred with refunds on 0-0's and 1-1's on correct score results as well as banging through another Cashpoint bet at close odds, need to do eight bets there at the same rate each time to get my instant bonus!  Bang on two today covering the tight game that will be Swiss v France with a score of 1-0 to France. Seven goals later and I realise I'm not much of a judge on these things! Take 2-0 Honduras against Ecuador, which is closer but still not right as it ends 2-1, and no chance to lay in play as Honduras score first. But the game that really upsets me has already happened, Italy losing to Costa Rica. I've underplayed everything here to varying degrees and not only are England boarding a plane home I'm about £20 down for the day!

Profit / Loss -£20

Saturday

Coming to terms with England not being part of the World Cup anymore is tought. are not part of it anymore there is money to be made!  I've slept off the vast quantity of alcohol consumed on Thursday and I'm on the hunt for some offers!!  I have a pretty fruitful day, Sky treat me to a £25 reload bonus when I bet £50, manage to back a horse that actually wins so up on that then plug my free £25 into my World Cup book backing a couple of outright world cup arbs. Top tip, if you're arbing, go for them at night when the lines are not being updated! I still have a fair bit of cash at Will Hill and Betfred but don't withdraw at these in the hope of eventually hitting a correct score refund. Party Bets hot combo falls in my favour, the accys here are perfect as you have time inbetween games to lay them and the 2 teams winning earns me about £30 even though my stake is limited to £10. With these I lay incrementally per match and work out odds after each game has finished if the bet is still on. In this case Argentina winning meant I had odds of around 4.00 on Nigeria when they were only 3.00 to lay so covered the stake with small profit and hoped they would win. Finally my 888Sport nominated team Argentina are playing Iran, £5 for each goal, and that mismatch should mean goals.............They manage one goal. One poxy goal against Iran! Thems the breaks.

Profit / Loss +£60

Sunday

Still can't get a correct score bet right, nearly done at Cashpoint now, only won one out of four bets there so far! The win today covers the previous small losses though so pretty much even and if I lose another £20 in qualifying then the £50 bonus will mean I'm nicely up.  Worth noting (as I'm big on T&Cs at the moment!) is Bet365 and Betsson's offers must be placed in the pre match section not live in play. Take them up on the 0-0 moneybacks and also Betsson's disaster insurance where you get paid as a winner if your team throws away a 3 goal lead (Algeria nearly do it to Korea weirdly later this evening). Another tip, with SkyBet do not try to combine a price boost with an offers, the boost is considered an offer so you won't get the refund. End the day with a nice £22 playing Sensible Soccer risk free at Stan James (another reason for me to consider Sensible Soccer to be one of the finest games of all time).

Monday

Chile 2-0 you little beuty! Finally a correct score bet hits! Nearly has disastrous consequences as a back of £25 on Chile to win 2-0 and due to some misreading, and the odds being  the same (17s), lay £22 on Holland to win 2-0. Re-checking realise my error before kick off and immediately lay at smarkets on Chile 2-0 as intended and as it is 10 mins till kick off decide not to risk a bet not being matched and stick £25 on Betfair at the same odds. I could have let it ride as would have been ok if it was not 2-0 Holland or 2-0 Chile well up. But it's a bloody good job I did lay because of course this time that correct score comes in. End up £20 on my Betfair bet which is a handy result for an adverted crisis. Could've covered the back at Smarkets  but the odds were better at Betfair. Cheeky spin and win at Will Hill adds £2.50 to the pot.

My betting day gets even better as I pull a rabbit out of the hat I've got 2-1 as correct score on Portugal USA, this is coming in but I start to get nervy and start laying against 2-1 from the last 10 mins in play. With just seconds to go Donovan is holding the ball up in the corner and odds have dropped to 1.06 I smash down an extra £25 lay that costs me £3 of profit, then celebrate wildly as Portugal bang in a last gasp equaliser. My bemused flatmate cannot work out what is going on, but I'm £60 up there so I couldn't give a monkeys!

Tuesday

Backing and laying so much on these games now that I am beginning to lose track, Ivory Coast fail miserably to win the group and so my pre tournament arb pays me £1. England's attack show less bite than Luis Suarez and the draw there ends my hopes of my 8 group winners bet coming in as I had Uruguay in that group. Got 6 out of 8 so a gamblers trixie or similar would've made a profit, but that's the old me! Unsuprisingly none of my correct scores come in and I again lose at Cashpoint twice more. My money back if there is a red card at Bet victor does not come in during England game, there is no penalty, the sky refund if they lose does not kick in and I can't lay anything in play either as watching it out with my dad. Even worse I have not for once, somehow, covered 0-0 insurance. At least this is the last time Engalnd can upset me.............until the Euro 2016 qualifying begins of course.

-£20

Wednesday

Time to relax sit back and watch Argentina smash a few goals in for my free bets and I'm pleased when they hit 3 putting me £15 freebets up for the game (loaded into outright back and lays) £30 up on this now with the Argies  potentially with 4 games left in the tournament. This has been my favourite ongoing bet to be honest! Again I have the wrong game covered for 0-0 insurance who the hell saw the Swiss hitting 3 against Honduras and France being 0-0. I come out slightly up as get a straight arb on a draw at France though between Betfair and Smarkets which nets me £40

+£50

Thursday

I open a Dafabet account and do their 50% deposit bonus, this works out well as it is immediately credited and I immediately bust out. £120 in £60 bonus, all backed and layed on Ghana to win. Also do a Party Bets shock boost on USA / Germany to be a draw, a result that sees them both through. The Germans as usual decided to upset me but not down as over laid £10 to the £8.10 restriction limit! I finally complete my cashpoint wagering with another losing bet 1 out of 8 return on these and mainly on odds of 2.00 to 3.00 but the £50 straight cash bonus is gratefully received

+£110

Weekly total +£282.

And that's the week that was.

Have you lost money Betting on the World Cup?

Have you lost money betting on the World Cup? Do you ever lose money betting?

Now this isn't a call to gambling addicts, if you have a problem then please contact Game Care immediately and talk to a friend or relative about it.

What I'm talking about is those of you who have had a couple of flutters on the World Cup, maybe an acca or two, maybe some larger bets on England being less than shockingly bad (which of course would've lost unless you have massively low expectations and thought the losses and draw were solid results!).

If you did have a bet, and you did lose, then almost certainly you're doing something wrong (no offence). Following tipsters is a sure fire way of losing money, if they were that good at tipping they'd have no need to tell people, they'd be the richest people in the world already. Likewise accumulators are a recipe for losing money as well, the return may look tantalising, but it's more often than not unreachable, and as the bet the bookies love the most why would you take it?

So what can you do to actually start making money, rather than losing it? For starters look at where you are placing bets. If you're using the same bookmaker for all your bets then you're never going to get the best available odds. There are hundreds of bookmakers that will take a bet from you, and the majority of them will offer a free bet when you sign up (and if you go to The Gambling Times you can also get cashback if you leave a review). You should be a bookmaker whore and get all of the free money available.

Now just because you're getting a free bet doesn't mean you're going to make money. Free bets and bonuses normally come with some form of wagering requirement which locks you in to placing more bets. The more you place the more likely you are to lose one and bust out.

The only sure way of making money from the free bets is through matched betting. The basic principal is that you back and lay to release free bets, and then do the same again with the free bet to guarantee a profit. You won't make a fortune, but there's a good few thousand pounds to be made through this. It's also remarkably simple, all you need is a basic understanding of maths (I'm talking sub GCSE) and you can do it.

At this point you might not be convinced, well that's fair enough, you might even say that you bet to add some excitement and that it's not about always winning. Well if that's you at the very least open a new bookmaker account for your next bet and do a risk free one, the worst that could happen is you get two chances to win some money, so potentially twice the excitement. Try BetBright or UniBet, actually do both, it's £50 of risk free bets! And if you're still not winning, come back to the Matched Betting Blog and start your matched betting education, there's always money to be made.

Betbright risk free bet
BetBright A newish player, but one that seems to have found it's place in the market with the sheer volume of bonuses and money back specials they offer. Start with a £30 risk free bet and go from there.

Unibet risk free bet
UniBet An old hand in the market and one with a solid reputation for bonuses. The service is excellent and a risk free starting bet is always a good way to introduce yourself to a new bookmaker.

Bet on England

14/6/2014

Betting on England is a good idea. Not because they're going to win the World Cup (if that was at all likely then 666Bet wouldn't have been offering 1966/1 on it a week or two ago - you can still get 66/1 if you're interested though!), but because there are a truck load of offers available on the England Italy match.

From the point of view of a fan of England and English football (if not the players) this match has the power of the heart ruling the head. I want Gerrard to be the first goal scorere, but it doesn't make it any more likely. I want England to win 5 nil, again, it's not any more likely because I want it to happen.

That's where matched betting and advantage play comes in. Take the offers and lay them off against each other and you can lock in a profit regardless of the result of the match. England win, you win and you feel fantastic. England lose, you still win money so don't feel quite so bad!

How can you do this? Well there are bookmaker moneyback specials all over the place, and specific bonuses on the England Italy match which should mean you'll end the night smiling regardless of what sort of abject performance (I'm trying to limit my expectations so I can only be pleased!) England decide to throw together.

How about moneyback if England lose against Italy?

Or would you prefer a bore draw refund if the match finishes nil nil?

How about moneyback if England win (so you can bet on Italy without the guilt!!)?

Maybe double odds if your first goalscorer scores in the first 20 minutes?

There are just too many England vs Italy moneyback specials to list here, but thankfully there is a full list of every moneyback special at the World Cup. Literally every single match.

I'm also a fan of the Bookie World Cup that The Gambling Times are running. Little bit of fun to be had matching off the Bookies on odds and offers. It's a one stop shop for the offers on specific games at the World Cup, and goes to show just how far behind some bookmakers are compared to others.
